Arthur driving Max & Fred at the Hillsboro
Balloon Festival.

Arthur Durgin hails from Newport, New
Hampshire but winters in Bushnell, Florida. He's driven and owned
pulling horse for 45 years. Now primarily retired from the driving
aspect of horsepulling he never the less owns some of the finest pulling
horses in the country and he does on rare occasion surprise us by doing the
chauffeuring as seen in the photo at the left. You will find that
Arthur and his horses are competitive in all the weight classes mostly
in New England during the summer and Florida during the winter but he does
also compete regularly at some of the countries biggest pulls. Arthur owns
and operates the Durgin & Crowell Lumber Company and lists the pull at the
Hillsboro Balloon festival in New Hampshire as his favorite pull to compete
in. He considers his most important accomplishment in pulling to be
teaching and training young horses to excel. Arthur is part of the
large contingent of Durgins that have pulled horses including several
brothers and his father before him. Arthur has also been responsible
for giving many of our young teamsters the opportunity to benefit from his
knowledge of the sport while they work and drive his horses.
