Marvin
Stoneman Sr. of Ashley, Michigan has been pulling
horses for 59 years. He presently competes with a pair of lightweight
horses all over the state of Michigan. Marvin is patriarch of a very large
pulling family that includes his son Marvin Jr., son-in-law Mike Hughes, and
grandsons Kyle Hughes, Ben Crocker, Keith Hughes, Derek and Jason Stoneman. He makes his living
farming as well as driving a school bus. His favorite pulls to compete in
each year are the events in Ithaca and Alma, Michigan. Marvin says
that his most important accomplishment in pulling is being able to pass on the
tradition to others. He gets great pleasure out of watching and helping
members of his family compete in a sport he loves so dearly. And he never
has to worry about having enough help at the pulls. |
