2008 Inductee

Max Ledyard
Camden, Michigan

Mr. Max Ledyard left this word on July 27, 2001.  He left behind a legacy of lightweight and heavyweight World records, numerous horsemanship awards and an unbelievable amount of horse transactions.  He dealt with all kinds of equine enthusiasts!  Numerous years were spent buying and shipping horses for the Japanese market.  Mr. Ledyard owned and operated Tri State Connections in Camden, buying, selling and training horses.  He was an independent trucker, hauling mainly cattle and of course horses.

Max's father became ill before a pony pull.  Max asked if he could take the ponies to the pull anyway.  That was around 1968.  Max was hooked on pulling from that moment on!  Mr. Ledyard began pulling draft horses in 1973 and a succession of World Records began in 1979.

Heavyweight World Records include:
1979  Max Ledyard & Albert Krause    4400#
1980  Max Ledyard                              4425# *
1980  Max Ledyard                              4450# *
1980  Max Ledyard                              4500# *
* Three new World Records set on the same day

Lightweight World Records also set by Max include:
1983  Max Ledyard & Bob Williams     4075#
1990  Max Ledyard & Bill Keegan        4100#  **
1990  Max Ledyard & Bill Keegan        4125#  **
** Max & Bill set two new World Records on the same day

Max Ledyard won the lightweight class at the Michigan Great Lakes International in 1983 and in 1992.  The heavyweight class was won by Mr. Ledyard in 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1990.

Max Ledyard served on the Michigan Dynamometer Association Board of Directors from 1979 to 2001.

Max was a man who liked to laugh, dance and tease.  A man who opened his heart and home to Terry & Jeff Burger.
