Smith of Richford, NY has been pulling for
25 years and is the long-time secretary/treasurer of the New York State Horse
Pullers Association. He participates in both the heavyweight and
lightweight classes in NY, PA, NH, CT, VT, ME and MI. He is currently
working with 6 horses. Doug is self-employed as a logger. He says
"This is becoming a very expensive hobby. It is too bad because the
younger people aren't able to get as involved as they would like and we need
them to carry the sport on." Doug's favorite pull to compete in is the
Erie County Fair in Hamburg, NY. He lists his most important
accomplishment in pulling as being able to have the support of his family,
without them it would be very difficult.

Pete in Harpursville, NY. earlier this year.
