Testing at MGLI
I thought that I saw a post yesterday or the day before about testing at the Great Lakes? Maybe UNO posted? I was going to read it and got interrupted. Could it be posted again?

It was a useless post. Sounded like a jealous horsepuller to me.

I wouldn't characterize a post as useless just because you don't agree with the sentiment. If we all did that then I guess your post would be useless.

I just glanced at it. I didn't get to really study the message. But, I didn't take it that Uno was jealous at all. I think the message board should allow airing of opinions. Unless something is vulgar or offensive, it think it should be left up. We don't all agree, that is what makes it interesting. Sometimes it is not jealousy, it is just stating an opinion that a lot of us have. I have learned a lot on the message board and sometimes I have not agreed with what was posted, but after much discussion, I have changed my mind and learned something. I think we all should be allowed to express our opinion. It all goes back to "there is no stupid question"! How many times have you heard teachers say that. Besides, in different areas of the country the pulling is so different that what applies to one region may not necessarily apply at all to another. Let's talk it out!! Freedom of speech!

Besides, I don't think Bill ever takes something down unless there are complaints and I didn't see anything offensive in my quick glance at the post. So, someone had to have complained. Again, "Freedom of Speech"! That is what makes the world go around.

When you talk about good people on a live board and their stock after they win the championship. All teamsters owners and families work very hard to make this happen. These horses you talk about are picked to be the best and breeding is getting better all the time. When you need to start making excuses its time look at your own operation. These are good people and good horses. Congratulations to all! Remember this is a competition and we all want to win but don't forget. To be the champs you got to beat the champs! Please no more excuses or disrespect.

Hey, part of being at the top means that everbody is after you. If you can't take the heat get out of the ktichen. I don't understand what the fuss is about. Are you not allowed to ask what they are testing for? And I understand that breeding gets better all the time. But, not everyone can afford that breeding. Alot of us are trying to pull old horses and just like old men their joints aren't as good as they used to be.

Interesting posts. Think we have been here before. In some ways humerous. Not sure what sparks the disagreement. One post expressing an opinion regarding the stoutness of a horse. Another asking about what is tested for and questions about supplements. I'm not seeing any disrespect or excuses just honest opinions and questions. Why all the secrecy and judgement all the time?

I have a suggestion. I'm a big fan of horsepulling. Have been for many years. I played high school football and I know that to be competitive you had to commit to time in the weight room. There were also other options including legal supplements and illegal supplements. Some used and some didn't. But regardless of whether we used or did not we all seemed to be lumped into the same accusations. I've seen the horses get bigger and more stout over the years. I know some of it is breeding but also speculate upon other possible reasons. My speculation is due to things I hear, that I see and also to my own ignorance. When I see someone on these boards ask questions about supplements and things tested for on drug panels I can't help but feel that it would be in the horsepullers best interest to supply these people with answers to their questions rather then get defensive or tight lipped. Answers could go a long way in ending the speculation and accusations. I would love to give Johnny the answers he is looking for but unfortunately I like Johnny do not know the answers.

If you want to know what is tested for go to the Aug 23,2014 post put up by Don Davis. There is a list there.

Don, thank you for the prompt response. I checked out the list and it brought me to a couple other questions if you will permit me. Is that a standard list that is used in each state or can they differ? What are the penalties for a positive test result? is the list ever updated or changed? I know in athletics that if a commonly used performance enhancer makes the test list then those who use the enhancer will come up with something new through whatever source they may have.

Those are the items tested for in Michigan. The penalties will vary depending on which association is having the testing done.
