Doris K “Dodo” Shafer, 72, of Acme, passed away peacefully Monday July 8, 2024 while in the Bethlen Home in Ligonier. She was born July 7, 1952 in Mt. Pleasant, a daughter of the late Allan H. and Thelma K. Chackan Shafer. Doris was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. Prior to her retirement she worked as a cashier at Leeper’s Market for 33 years and later for Walmart in Mt. Pleasant for 15 years. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Donegal where she taught Sunday School for many years. Doris loved gardening and worked in her garden most everyday. She enjoyed giving all the wonderful vegetables that she grew to all her friends and church members. She also loved doing jigsaw puzzles and crocheting , and going to her family members sporting events. Doris will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her loving family, her brother Allan Shafer of Murrysville and her sister Vera Brown and husband Tom of Acme, her niece and nephews, Amy Spence and husband Rob of Cranberry, Bruce Shafer and wife Dawn of Scottdale, Scott Brown and wife Cindy of Acme, Rick Brown and wife Stephanie of Acme, Keith Brown and wife Jennifer of Acme, and Charlie Brown and wife Renee of Acme, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received Thursday from 2-8 PM in the Mark C. Brooks Funeral Home. Inc., at the corner of Route 711 and 146 Municipal Building Rd., Melcroft (724-455-2310) where a Funeral Service will be held Friday at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Keith Deckinger officiating. A Committal Service and interment will follow in the Byerly Freeman Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Twp. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Mt.
