Floyd A. “Sonny” Brown 1956 – 2023

Floyd A. “Sonny” Brown Jr., of Erie County Line Rd, Corry, PA, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Corry Memorial Hospital.

He was born February 27, 1956 in Union City, PA, a son of the late Floyd Brown Sr. and Elsie (Johnson) Brown.

Sonny worked for Conrail for 11 years. In 1984, he started his own logging business. He specialized in horse logging, rarely using a skidder. He continued to be involved in the logging community, as he was semi-retired, transporting logging Amish crews and he developed several close relationships with the Amish.

He was a member of The Salt Church in Corry. He also was a member of New York State, Laurel Highlands and Buckeye Horse Pullers Association. He was PA’s premium horseman. He had a passion for draft horse pulling. He set the PA state record with his draft horses, Big D and Pete.

Sonny was president of the morning coffee club at Dutch Treat in Spartansburg. He enjoyed playing poker, playing cards, horseshoes and telling barn stories and jokes (Barn Talk). Sonny made every one of his grandchildren feel like they were his favorite. He had a huge sense of humor and a personality larger than life. Sonny never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Pam Brown and brother, Paul Brown.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Veronica (Proper) Brown, whom he married on May 1, 1978 in Lancaster, SC; four children, Valerie Yoder and her husband Travis of Corry, PA, Denise Baker and her husband Joe of Corry, PA, Greg Brown and his wife Erin of Spartansburg, PA and Angel Bittinger and her husband Rob of Mentor, OH; two sisters, Carol Gee of Corry, PA and Diane Carniewski and her husband Butch of Union City, PA; mother-in-law, Joanne Johnson of Corry, PA; two sisters-in-law, Sheila Parker and her husband Brandon of Spring Creek, PA and Kim Jackson and her husband Jeff of Corry, PA and brother-in-law, Rod Johnson and his wife Tera of Columbus, PA.

Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Alexa and Tori Yoder, Lucas, Audrey and Jacob Baker, Adam, Elaina, Naomi, and was expecting a new grandson, Colt Sonny Brown, and Paige Bittinger and he also had several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call at The Salt Church, 205 E. Washington St, Corry, PA 16407 on Tuesday, June 27th, from 6 pm to 8 pm and on Wednesday, June 28th from 11 am until the time of the funeral service there at 12 noon. Pastor Al Gernovich will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, Corry, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salt Church.
